Shannon Cole-Vest, BBA

Practice Manager

Shannon is a lifelong resident of Douglas County with 16 years of dedicated experience in veterinary medicine. She has been affiliated with Dr. Michael Kay and his father, Dr. James Kay, since 2010. A passion for service and a deep love of animals have led her to her life’s work – striving to improve the well-being of every animal she encounters. Her commitment to her work and her community reflects her enduring dedication to the health and happiness of animals and their owners alike. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her two-legged loved ones.

Breanna Benson

Vet Assistant and Surgical Assistant

Bre joined the Hwy 5 team in July of 2023 and has quickly moved through the ranks as a valuable addition to the staff. Bre’s family always knew she would work in the animal field as she was always bringing home the strays. At 8 years old, she wrote her parents a 2 page essay on why she needed to go to the shelter to rescue multiple animals. Bre has a passion for animals and for knowledge and is always striving to learn new information and skills everyday to allow her to provide the best care possible to her patients and their parents. She has a rescue girl, sweet Patty, and together they enjoy being outdoors hiking and hanging out on the beach!

Taylor Chastang

Lead Kennel Tech and Vet Assistant

Taylor is our Lead Kennel Tech and is growing her skills as a Vet Assistant everyday. She has known since she was a little girl that she wanted to work with animals. In her spare time, when she’s not saving God’s creatures, she loves spending time with her family and two amazing kids. She is very hard working, loving, and loves what she does at Hwy 5 Animal Hospital – saving animals!

Jill Godwin

Receptionist

Jill is also a lifelong resident of Douglasville and has been working periodically in the veterinary community since 2009. Jill graduated from Chapel Hill High School, is Mom to Kennedy, 15 and Kaicen, 10. Jill worked with Dr. James Kay from 2010-2015 and returned to work with Dr. Michael Kay in 2023. In her free time, she loves spending time with her kids and extended family, and talking about Alabama football!

Cindy Percibal

Surgery Assistant and Vet Assistant

Cindy has always had a love and passion for animals. She’s been involved in veterinary medicine since 1989 in Miami, FL. She started in the kennel and worked her way up in various positions in the Vet field. After moving to Georgia, Cindy heard about Dr. Michael Kay and Hwy 5 Animal Hospital and started working here in August 2020. Wife to John for 20 years, and Mom to her son Josh, 30. Her favorite hobby is fishing, when she can. She has two fur babies. A Chihuahua named “Khaleesi” and a Belgian Malinois named “Knox”. Working with animals has always had a place in her heart and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kayla Posey

Surgical Assistant and Vet Assistant

Kayla has always gravitated towards animals and helping those in need. After working in human medicine she found her home with animals. Kayla has been an integral part of the Hwy 5 Animal Hospital Team since 2020. Happily married and Boy Mom to one with another on the way, Kayla is also owned by two German Shepherds who love to hike.

Emma Prater

Veterinary Assistant

Emma joined the Hwy 5 Animal Hospital team in 2006. She continues to offer a caring heart and experienced skill set to our clients and patients. Mother to two boys, aged 10 and 13, as well as a black lab named Buddy, two cats – Merlin and Munch, and four chickens. In her free time she enjoys hiking, swimming, fishing, and traveling with her family.

Kaitlin Strickland

Student Intern

Kaitlin is a high school student intern who is in her second year at Hwy 5 Animal Hospital. She is learning many facets of daily life in a veterinary hospital. Kaitlin is currently one of our kennel techs, is learning to assist the technicians with restraint and collecting samples, and beginning to learn some of the business related tasks we perform everyday. Kaitlin loves all the animals and her ultimate plan is to become a veterinarian. In her free time, Kaitlin enjoys traveling and spoiling her Yorkie, Finley

Ethel Washington

Receptionist

Ethel has been with us at Hwy 5 since November 2021 and her career in veterinary medicine has stretched over 20 years. She is married to Orlando, and together they have created a blended family of two boys, three girls, and one fur baby. For Ethel, nothing is more important than family!

Jaida White

Kennel Assistant and Vet Assistant

Jaida has been with us at Hwy 5 Animal Hospital since May 2023 while attending UWG full time with aspirations to become a Veterinarian. Her favorite animals are elephants and that’s what drives her motivation towards her goals. She loves anything outdoors, loves spending time with her dog Ellie, and her life goal is to travel the world!
